This project and it’s concept involved the full development of a working film rendered within a game engine (Machinima), in order to investigate and critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of producing such an entertainment art, as well as it’s feasibility as opposed to other motion mediums such as Ray-traced CGI, Animation and Real-world films. The Machinima was developed within the Unreal Development Kit, released by Epic Games. It is seen as a 3D Engine tailored to suit many needs, from developing games, to generalised immersive environments and even physics simulations.
I decided to produce a film based on the critically acclaimed space-based Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) Eve Online, using its Trinity DirectX 10 engine as a benchmark reference to level of detail, animation and capabilities. The movie itself revolves around an Interceptor pilot named Rei Tsukino and what is required of her when her fleet is ambushed by a hostile force, during colonisation operations outside of their borders.
